Bal Samuha consist of two words - ‘Bal’ denotes children and ‘Samuha’ denotes group, implying Bal Samuha as Children’s Group. Such groups were initiated with the intention of keeping in touch with the youth of the community, who have had some association with Door Step School i.e. DSS alumni. Most of these members who are in between 10 to 18 years of age have been introduced to education by the efforts of the organization, and are now studying in secondary or higher secondary schools. The Bal Samuha members come together to work on issues that affect their community, and promote child rights & protection. Taking this initiative further, Bal Samuhas have also been formed in the Municipal Schools where we work through our School Partnership Project. In Mumbai, we have 25 groups of children which have more than 470 children as active members, based in slums and schools. Life skills education, street play competitions, awareness sessions and exposure visits will be conducted to give Bal Samuha children opportunities to build the required skills in the children and youth. The cost per child will be Rs.3,000 and for 30 children will be Rs. 90,000 for a year. Honorarium of the resource person - Rs. 1,000 Exposure visit (travelling & refreshments) - Rs. 1,000 Awareness camp (lodging, boarding & food) - Rs. 1,000 Total Cost – Rs. 3000 p.a per child
